Corn oil is vegetable oil obtained from corn germ, which is a by-product of flour milling production and accounts for about 10% of the weight of the grain itself.

The presence of oil is undesirable in the production of cornmeal, starch, and fodder, as it leads to oxidation and deterioration of the quality of the product. The germ contains about 80% of the total amount of fat contained in the corn, so it is separated before milling.

Corn germ separation can be done in two ways: dry and wet. The oil obtained from the germs after the application of the dry method is of a higher quality.

Corn oil is obtained by double-pressing. The process consists of several steps:

germ cleaning
shredding, preparation
forepressing
initial cleaning of the oil
corn oil cake preparation for extraction
oil extraction with organic solvents

The oil can also be refined and deodorized.

Corn oil contains fatty acids, up to 85% are unsaturated (linoleic, oleic). It is considered hypoallergenic, rich in vitamins E and B.
