Cottonseed oil is vegetable oil obtained from cotton seeds, which are a by-product of cotton production. Cotton seeds contain up to 25% of oil.
To produce oil, cotton seeds are crushed and cold-pressed, then the mass is warmed up and pressed once again.
The purified oil is called refined and has a light yellow colour, while the raw oil is painted brown.
Cotton oil consists of stearic, palmitic, oleic and linseed acids and contains large amounts of vitamins E and A.
Cotton oil is most widely used in the cosmetics and soap-making industries, where it is used in combination with other oils. It is also used in food and for drying oil production.
